The Moonlighting Check Process

A structured comparison between what the candidate declared and what their own PF contributions actually show.
1
Resume & UAN Retrieved
Both the candidate's declared employment history and their UAN/EPFO passbook are pulled as mandatory inputs.
2
Every Employer Compared
Each declared employer's dates are checked against the UAN passbook's employer, joining date, exit date, and contribution months.
3
Timeline Overlaps Flagged
Any period where two employers show simultaneous contributions is identified as a potential undisclosed engagement.
4
Structured Report & Grading
Findings are documented across UAN details, resume details, verification comparison, and key observations, then graded.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Moonlighting Check?
ExpandCollapse
It detects undisclosed employment, parallel engagements, or dual income sources by comparing a candidate's declared resume employment history against their own UAN/EPFO passbook records - flagging any period where two employers show overlapping contributions.
What if a candidate doesn't have a UAN?
ExpandCollapse
An insufficiency is raised first to confirm this. If it's confirmed the candidate genuinely has no UAN, the check is graded Verified. If the insufficiency goes unresolved, it's graded N/A rather than assumed either way.
Does a missing exit date on EPFO count against a candidate?
ExpandCollapse
No - for a current employer, EPFO often hasn't been updated with an exit date yet simply because the candidate is still employed there. This is expected and graded Verified, not flagged as a discrepancy.
What if an employer uses a private PF trust instead of EPFO?
ExpandCollapse
Some employers manage provident fund contributions through a private trust that isn't integrated with EPFO's central portal, so that employment won't appear on the UAN passbook. These cases are graded Unable to Verify rather than incorrectly cleared or flagged as an overlap.
What if a candidate has more than one UAN?
ExpandCollapse
Each UAN is processed individually and the employment timelines are consolidated into one view, with the existence of multiple UANs flagged in the report for your awareness.
Does an overlap automatically mean the candidate lied?
ExpandCollapse
No. The report documents exactly what the overlap is and where it came from - known edge cases like PF trusts and ongoing employment are already accounted for before something is graded Discrepancy. The hiring decision is still yours to make with that context.
