Verified At The Source: Why We Built DigiLocker Into Background Verification

Every background check starts with a document. Usually, that means a candidate photographs their Aadhaar card, uploads it, and waits.  An OCR engine reads the text, a masking layer hides the parts that shouldn’t be visible, and a verifier checks by hand that everything lines up. It works, but every one of those steps costs time and money, and every one of them is a place where a blurry photo or a bad crop sends the BGV process back to the start.

We’ve spent the last few months rebuilding that flow around DigiLocker- the Government of India’s digital document repository instead of around a photograph.

What Changed

When a candidate connects their DigiLocker account, SpringVerify pulls their identity and address records directly from the source, UIDAI for Aadhaar, the Income Tax Department for PAN- through an authenticated, consent-gated exchange. There’s no image to read, because there’s no image: the data comes back as text, verified at the point of retrieval, before the candidate’s form is even submitted.

What’s Live

Identity: Aadhaar and PAN,  Address verification is currently available. Education is next, and once it ships, DigiLocker will cover every document-based check in SpringVerify’s core BGV flow.
1,352 candidates have already completed verification this way.

Why It Matters For Your Hiring

  • Lower cost. No OCR pass, no manual masking, no manual cross-check; the steps that make document verification expensive mostly disappear.
  • Faster TAT. Because the record is verified before the form is even submitted, the biggest single delay in identity and address verification-waiting on document processing is gone.
  • Cleaner data. A DigiLocker record is text. A photographed Aadhaar card is an image that has to be read, masked, and interpreted with lighting, glare, and crop to contend with.

None of this changes what you see on your end. Checks still return through the same dashboard, on the same report. What changes is what’s happening underneath it: less manual handling of a candidate’s most sensitive documents, and a faster answer for you.

As far as we can tell, SpringVerify is the first background verification company in India to integrate DigiLocker at this scale and Education verification is next, the first of several checks we’re rebuilding the same way: verified at the source, not reconstructed from a photograph.
